The 2nd Annual Watermelon Social & Seed Spitting Contest

We had so much fun today I am still giggling!

Yet again, Sue organized another fantastic afternoon at Shirley Futch. Starting with the watermelon...

Hanging out with friends...

And the very best part: the Seed Spitting Contest! To stick with the '2nd Annual' theme we spit cherry pits instead of watermelon seeds. Why is it so hard to find a watermelon with seeds in it??

For the 2nd year in a row, our best spitter is MARYELLEN at a whopping 22.2 feet!
Congratulations!

Our official score board:

A group shot of 'the spitters':

Join us for a couple rounds of Literati! We play each month immediately following the Birthday Party.

Literati is similar to the board game Scrabble except we play online against each other.

If you don’t know how to play, I can teach you in just a few minutes! Give it a try, I know you will like it. There is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board outside the Computer Learning Center.

According to the Canadian Broadcasting Center, simple computers date back thousands of years to the Chinese abacus, consisting of rows of beads on a wooden frame used for counting. The modern computer dates back to 1945, when the Electronic Numerical Integrator and Calculator (ENIAC) was invented. In 1973, the U.S. Department of Defense developed the Internet so all of its own computers could be connected; in 1990 the World Wide Web was born, Scientific American reports. The rapid evolution of technology has resulted in the computers we use today, and those too are changing as we speak.
