1st Annual Garden Party!
The Computer Training Center and the Germinators teamed up to host our first annual Garden Party!
A couple of years ago, Mark and Chad built us table gardens. The tables are high even to allow for residents to garden without having to get on their knees, many just sit on their walkers. The tables worked out well and last year we had a small herb and vegetable garden. The garden was successful and the residents really seemed to enjoy it, so this year we added to the garden to make it even better.
In keeping with the Better Tomorrows core outcome areas, this year the garden was designed for:
1. Healthy Lifestyles - fresh herbs and veggies, working in the garden
2. Strong Communities - digging in the dirt, planting herbs and veggies with your friends and neighbors
3. Economic stability - growing your own herbs and veggies is much cheaper than buying them at the grocery store. less waste too - only take what you need!
4. Educational Success - learning how to grow different types of veggies and herbs, how to plant them, how much to water
20 residents joined us for our garden party.
We had several types of tomatoes and peppers, a variety of herbs and many flowers to be planted.
We had a nice spread of crackers, fruits, vegetables, hummus, flavored sun tea and cucumber water. After all, the residents were working so hard in the gardens, we had to keep them nourished :)
It was such a wonderful afternoon and we got all of our gardening finished! Thank you to ALL of you that came to our garden party!!
Here are a bunch more pictures from our wonderful afternoon.
