Where did the name Shirley Futch Plaza come from?

Shirley Futch made it to the Pocono Record again! Here is a copy of the article:
Q: Can you tell me about the origin of the name for Futch senior facility in East Stroudsburg?

My mother's maiden name was Futch, and I am working on my family's genealogy.

J.F.
Avon, Ohio

A: On June 25, 1988, friends and co-workers of the late Shirley Futch gathered on the lawn of the Courtland Plaza Elderly Complex in East Stroudsburg during its renaming ceremony. The complex's new name, Shirley Futch Plaza, was in honor of Futch, a past administrative vice president of Interstate Realty Management Co., based in Marlton, N.J., which manages the plaza.

At the time, the Pocono Record reported that according to manager William LaBar, the idea of renaming the complex came from the company's owners, Nelson Morgan and Mike Levitt.

"Shirley had a very bubbling personality. She was very knowledgeable in her field and was very well liked," LaBar said when the complex was rededicated.

Futch, who died in November 1987, worked for Interstate Realty for 19 years and was instrumental in forming its management training program. She also helped set up the company's East Stroudsburg housing complex and recruited its first tenants.

Gail Weirbach, the present manager of Shirley Futch Plaza for Interstate Realty and the one who pieced together the history of Futch Plaza, noted that Futch "loved the building."

Weirbach added that a plaque sits outside the building, honoring Futch for her dedication and work.

Resident Success Story -> Monika London

SUCCESS STORY

DATE: __1/30/09__ SITE: _Shirley Futch Plaza_______BY: _Sharlotte Giberson_______

RESIDENT / PARTICIPANT NAME: ___Monika London_____

Reason(s) participant came to the Computer Training Center (what was his/her goal?)
Monika came in to the Computer Room to learn something new and to stay in touch with family and friends via email.

Accomplishment(s) of the participant:
Monika is now able to send/receive email on her own. She had to work hard to be able to remember the steps involved. She is also able to get to gaming websites on her own.

Obstacles he/she had to overcome:
Monika has a difficult time retaining new information however she has come along way and is able to do most things without any instruction.

What difference has participation in the Computer Training Center made for him/her?
Monika has so much more confidence in what she’s doing. She has been attending many of the classes offered and also coming in for one-on-one appointments to try and learn everything she can. She has also recently gotten her computer and has been practicing at home. I have seen huge improvements in Monika’s abilities and I think she is starting to see it too.
