Watermelon Social

Our Watermelon Social was supposed to be an afternoon of fun in the sun but we got poured on just minutes before it started.

But that's OK, we ate watermelon anyway!

We had fun playing 'Ring Toss'

There were even 'Bean Bag Toss' games

We had checkers too!

The very best part was the seed spitting contest! Believe it or not, watermelon WITH seeds is very hard to come by. Sue, Gail & myself looked everywhere for watermelon with seeds but turned up empty handed. Luckily, Sue is very clever and thought of spitting cherry pits instead. Good idea, those cherries were yummy!

And Shirley Futch Plaza's ultimate seed-spitter is:

Mary Ellen Biddulph who spit her seed 260+ inches!

We had so much fun!!!!

Thank you Sue for being so creative and fun-loving! And a special thanks to Gail, who makes Shirley Futch Plaza such a wonderful place to live - and work!

Celebrity Residents??

As many of you know, my husband is an aspiring author and runs a website with a woman from Michigan promoting writers and providing tips on the publishing world.

Well, his partner Karen got published and her book is coming out in October! She started a fantastic promotional website for her book and challenged many people to get a picture of her book, "Freezing Point", in all situations around the world.

My husband, Chris, thought it would be neat to use a picture from Shirley Futch Plaza in hopes of getting it on Karen's website.

After much ado, check out our celebrities, Verna Overpeck and Carol Romansky, on Karens' website for Freezing Point. Click Here.

Survey Says! Futch Feud

In honor of HUD's Neighborhood Network Week 2008, we played Fucth Feud! Over 30 residents participated in our luncheon (pizza, garlic knots, salads & soda) then played Futch Feud.

After lunch, while I set up for Futch Feud, the residents played a little game using sticky hands and chocolate coins. Each resident was given a sticky hand and had to grab the chocolates off the middle of the table with their 'hand'. The pictures of this are hysterical. It was good to see all of you having so much fun.

Prior to playing Futch Feud, the residents were broken into 2 teams, Team "Google" and Team "Yahoo", each team chose 5 spokespeople who were elected to shout out the asnwers.

Surveys were displayed on the wall using an LCD Projector so our game board was HUGE! After playing to 300 points and 8 surveys, Team Google was the big winner. All residents who participated received a $1.00 scratch off ticket, while the winners each received 2 tickets. We also chose names at random and gave away even more tickets!

Futch Feud was a huge success and everyone who played had a good time. We will definetly do it again in the near future!

Thank you so MArie & Helen for all of your help. You ladies are wonderful!!!

PS Did anyone take pictures of our game board? I obviously did not :(

If you are a new resident or have never been to the Computer Room, now’s your chance to come check us out! Stop by the Computer Room anytime between 1:15 and 4:45 for an introduction to the Computer Learning Center. You can stay as long, or as little, as you’d like.

Come meet other residents that use the Learning Center, check out our BLOG or just stop by to say ‘Hi’! This is only for fun and you will not be making a commitment to come in on a regular basis. You can come back only if you like what you see!

Those that have come in the past but had problems with the lighting, check us out again. We have desk lamps (opposed to overhead lights) that have really made a big difference!

Oh yeah, everyone who stops by (you must sign in) will have a chance to win a PRIZE!
Random PRIZE to be drawn at 4:30 in the Community Room. Bring your raffle ticket with you!
