October Birthday Party - SFP Mummies?

Why were there several rolls of toilet paper sitting next to our October birthday cake?? Because we turned residents into mummies! Residents were broken into groups of 3 or 4 and had to choose one person from their group to be wrapped up like a mummy. Teams were given one roll of TP and had to wrap their mummy from head to toe using the entire roll. It was so much fun!

Nancy & Lowell wrapped their mummy Roberta the fastest!

Natalie & Verna with mummy Bert.

Bob, Winnie & Jean T with mummy Eileen.

Monika, Marie & Dot with mummy Pat.

Loida, Margaret & Grace with mummy Ann.

Emma, Audrey & Alma with mummy Jean B.

Helen & Annie with mummy Norma.

Digital Camera Day - Leaf Peepers

Eileen Honsberger, Annie Benitez & Carol Romansky searched the grounds behind our building and the parking lot across the street in search of the changing leaves that makes the Pocono's so beautiful. Afterwards, Edna Fairfield invited us to the Germinators meeting for some donuts & apple cider. YUMMY!

Look at their pictures!

Success Story September 2008 - Carol Romansky

SUCCESS STORY
DATE: __9/30/08__ SITE: _Shirley Futch Plaza_______BY: _Sharlotte Giberson________

RESIDENT / PARTICIPANT NAME: ___Carol Romansky
Reason(s) participant came to the Computer Training Center (what was his/her goal?)

Carol has been coming to the Computer Room since it reopened back in February of 2007. She originally came in to learn how to use email so she could stay in touch with her daughter who lives in California. This success story is to outline Carol’s accomplishments since she got her own computer.

Accomplishment(s) of the participant:
Carol got so much out of her experiences in the Computer Learning Center that she wanted to get a computer of her own. Carol has had her own computer for 4 months and has continued to maintain and update it on her own. She got over the initial fear of ‘breaking it’ and now brings a new perspective to the Computer Learning Center. She is happy to help others when they run into problems. She also provides them with tips and ways to make computing easier. She also loves to talk about new websites she’s found or fun games she has played. I enjoy watching her navigate on the web as she has learned how to use site maps and the history files to navigate sites. This is something that she learned on her own.

Obstacles he/she had to overcome:
Carol had no confidence in herself. She would come to me with all sorts of questions convinced she was going to break the computer. In the last couple of months she has really grown in her ability to assess problems and discern whether or not they are critical.

What difference has participation in the Computer Training Center made for him/her?
Being able to apply what she learns in the Learning Center at home has instilled very valuable skills and knowledge. Rather than using email she now ‘chats’ with her family and friends. The experience has really allowed her confidence to grow. I am so proud of her accomplishments and look forward to watching her learn even more!
