April Success Story -> Dorothy O'Brien

SUCCESS STORY

DATE: __4/29/10__ SITE: _Shirley Futch Plaza_____BY: _Sharlotte Giberson_______

Resident: Dorothy O’Brien

Dot moved to Shirley Futch Plaza in October of 2009 and quickly became a frequent visitor to the Computer Learning Center. She had never used a computer before moving to Shirley Futch Plaza but was very enthusiastic about learning. I started by teaching Dot fun games on the Internet and then eventually got her involved in the Beginner’s Class, which she graduated from in March 2010.

Dot faithfully comes to the Computer Learning Center each day it is open. She prints grocery and restaurant coupons, reads the local newspaper online, plays games and helps others. Anytime anyone needs some assistance Dot is the first person to offer help. She also shuts down the computers at night or turns them on in the morning.

Dot is a welcome addition to Shirley Futch Plaza and the Computer Learning Center.

How to save $$$$$$

There is an excellent article in the Pocono Record today about saving money using coupons, store cards and taking advantage of sales. CLICK HERE TO READ THE ARTICLE

I thought this information was most valuable:
"Some stores such as Target will let you "stack" coupons. You can use a Target coupon printed from their Web site and a manufacturer's coupon on the same product."

So, based on that invaluable information, I added a link to the Favorite Websites called Target Coupons (on the right hand side of your screen). Make sure you utilize this fantastic money saving opportunity!!!

Easter Egg Hunt and Party!

I think the pictures tell the story best! Thank you Sue for yet another outstanding party!

Pennsylvania school to give iPad to students

Yesterday at our Home Users Club we discussed e-readers - what they are, how they work, etc. In our opinion, we determined that in the near future students won't have text books, they'll be replaced by the Kindle, Nook, iPad or some other e-reader out there.

Turns out, we were right. Check out this article from the San Francisco Business Times:

Seton Hill University in Greensburg, Pa., plans to give all its students an Apple iPad and a MacBook laptop computer in the fall.

The school will give the Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) devices to every student (it has about 1,550) in the fall, and to all entering freshmen thereafter.

Seton Hill has spent $1.5 million on campus technology infrastructure. It plans to charge students about $500 per term for this program.

Cupertino-based Apple is set to start selling the iPad, its latest much-hyped, must-have device, on Saturday. No one is yet sure how people will use the device, which will be sold through Apple’s own stores and at Best Buy. But Apple has been showing off the iPad’s possible uses in videos on its web site this week.

Absolutely amazing huh? Thanks to Marie Counterman for sending this article to me. You are quite the student ;)
