Sandy Hook Lighthouse, Sandy Hook NJ (1764). The oldest light station is on Little Brewster Island in Boston, however the tower originally built in 1716 was destroyed by the British and rebuilt in 1784.

~Constructed of sandstone blocks from Connecticut, 8" high and varying in length from 18" high to 44"
~The walls are 6' thick at the base tapering to 3' thick at the top
~The height of the tower is 110' 6"
~There are 137 iron steps to the top of the tower
~The light flashes every 5 seconds and can be seen a distance of 19 nautical miles

I always wanted to visit the lighthouse at Cape Hatteras since I grew up in N.C.. So stately and old. They really built those things to last. Isn't it strange though, that the best ones are on the east coast? Loved seeing all of these.
