SUCCESS STORY

DATE: __6/30/08_ SITE: _Shirley Futch Plaza___BY: _Sharlotte Giberson___

RESIDENT / PARTICIPANT NAME: ___Patricia Fogarty___

Reason(s) participant came to the Computer Training Center (what was his/her goal?)
Pat wanted to be able to communicate with her children via email. She is also the Secretary to our TA association so she needed to learn Word to keep track of the minutes.

Accomplishment(s) of the participant:

Pat has mastered email, learned Word, can make cards as good as Hallmark, and play games on the Internet. She has accomplished all that she originally set out to do. Pat is extremely intuitive and ‘runs’ with any instruction I give her. She is extremely competent and I am still shocked at how easily she picks up on things. In our Learning Center we have 2 types of mice – traditional and top-ball. Many residents can only use 1 or the other – not Pat. She can sit at any computer without hardware complications.

Obstacles he/she had to overcome:
Just that she NEVER used a computer prior to her 1st visit in the computer room back in December.

What difference has participation in the Computer Training Center made for him/her?

Just a couple of weeks ago Pat said “no matter how bad I feel when I come down here, by the time I leave I feel so much better!”

She also sent me these kind words in an email:
“i am enjoying this class so much. i am having so much fun . you are such a good teacher and i enjoy the time spent with you.”

The most recent email from Pat:
“i am so enjoying the class. we are having so much fun. it is nice to be able to get together. you are such a great teacher. we all love so much. love pat”
